BREAKING: Police make arrest in Burnley girl abduction probe

POLICE investigating the abduction of a six-year-old girl have made an arrest.

A 33-year-old man from Accrington has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction and is currently in police custody.

Detectives launched a manhunt after the girl was taken by a man, possibly in a black car from Nairne Street, Burnley, around 4pm on Thursday.

It is believed she was then dropped off at Whitefield Street, Hapton, around 4.30pm, where she was found and returned home before police were called.

Officers continue their appeal and urge anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanne McHugh from East CID said: “We need anyone who may have witnessed a black coloured car in the Nairne Street or Whitefield Street areas around the time of the abduction to contact us.

“Similarly, if anyone knows anything about this incident at all, please call us on 101.”
