Ban for New Year's Day drink-driver

A drink driver caught more than twice the limit in the early hours of New Year's Day was taking her boyfriend away from a row, a court heard.

Charlotte Emily Dawson (27) was stopped by police in Colne at 1-30am and blew 77 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath at the police station – the legal limit is 35.

Dawson, of Aspen Drive, Burnley, admitted driving with excess alcohol in North Valley Road, at Burnley Magistrates’ Court. She was banned for 17 months and was fined £400, with £85 costs and a £40 victim surcharge. Miss Catherine Fell (defending) said Dawson had gone out not intending to drive.
