But Claire, husband David and their new arrival were back home by 10am ready for a family Christmas dinner for 14 later in the day.

Claire, who was due on December 12th, said she had made sure everything was ready for Christmas Day as she went into labour at home in Mitella Street, Burnley. By 11pm she decided she needed to head for hospital and Minnie arrived three hours later.

Claire’s mum, Beverley Barrett, looked after the couple’s two other children Charlie (10) and Lilli Ann (7) who attend Brunshaw Primary School, while grandad Stuart Neary cooked Christmas dinner for the extended family of 14, 15 including Minnie.

“We had a lovely big family day in the end, and the birth was a really amazing experience, the staff were wonderful. I never expected a Christmas Day baby, I was due to go in to be induced on Boxing Day morning, but she didn’t want to wait any longer and arrived in time for Christmas,” said the proud new mum.

Clitheroe mum Amy Mullins, of Beech Close, was next to give birth, to a little girl Annabelle Wendy Mackenzie at 10-58am, followed by Rawtenstall mum Marie Rayner who gave birth to a baby boy at 02-14 in the afternoon.

There was one other new mum who did not wish to be named and five babies were born at Blackburn Birth Centre to Blackburn and Darwen mums.
