‘All-round good guy’ Paul dies

Mr Paul Burrows, who grew up in Padiham and Hapton, had only returned to Burnley in November after living in London for many years.

Paul, who was 65, had worked for Voluntary Service Overseas in his younger years, teaching English in Sierra Leone in Africa and Papua New Guinea in the Pacific.

His friend of 50 years, Mr John Webster, said: “Paul was a man who was generous of spirit and an all-round good guy.

“He had been living in London for the last 20 years where his job involved looking after high-rise buildings.

“Paul was an extremely intelligent man, very gregarious and outgoing. He loved to travel and help others less fortunate. He will be sadly missed.

“I actually first met him when we played for the Whalley Range darts team in Padiham. He was very good company.

“Paul had not been in perfect health but his death has still come as a great shock.”

Paul, who leaves his father Joseph and sisters Barbara and Dianne, had settled back in the Duke Bar area. He attended St Leonard’s School in Padiham. Paul was an avid Burnley Football Club fan, was heavily involved with the London Clarets, and still travelled to games at Turf Moor. He also enjoyed bowling. In Burnley he socialised in the Bridge Bier Huis and the Ministry of Ale where he made many friends.

His funeral will be held on Monday, February 16th, at Burnley Crematorium at 3-40pm.
