The service this Saturday will be run by celebrant Angela Riding and is the first of its kind to be held at the crematorium with the support of Burnley Council.

Any proceeds from the event will go to BK’s Heroes, a charity set up Ben King from Reedley who died in February aged 27 from brain and kidney disease.

The service is expected to last for one hour and will feature a few Christmas carols and stories on how people deal with grief.

A choir from Marsden Heights Community College will also be performing as Ben was a pupil at the former Mansfield High School.

Angela said: “It’s the first time the local authority has done something like this. We hope it is well attended by people wishing to celebrate the life of a loved one at this special time of year.

“We want it to unite the community. This is a nondenominational service accessible to families grieving over the festive period.”
