60 new jobs as raincoat firm expands

Mackintosh, which recently completed an extension to its factory in Waterford Street, has also purchased state of the art textile equipment, including sewing and cutting machinery, with the aim of doubling its manufacturing and working capacity.

The company, which produces its own branded coats and also supplies companies at the top of the fashion market including Prada, Louis Vuitton and Gucci, has been supported by Regenerate Pennine Lancashire.

The extension and purchase of machinery was partially funded with a £150,000 grant from Regenerate.

Stephen Lees, general manager at the Nelson plant, said: “Our raincoats are highly detailed and require an enormous amount of skill to produce, so it was important that we invested further in Nelson to retain our highly skilled workforce and take on more staff from the area.

“The approval of the grant from Regenerate was a major factor in the decision to expand the Lancashire site”.

Pendle Council approved the application of grant from Regenerate. Coun. Paul White, who oversees Pendle’s Enterprise and Growth, said: “I was delighted to approve this grant. It will really help Mackintosh grow rapidly over the next few years and create job opportunities for Pendle residents. Mackintosh is a fantastic company and we certainly have the specialist skills here to create their iconic raincoats!”
