50 job vacancies at Burnley engineering firm

The Express revealed last week that BCW Engineering secured a £4m. deal to manufacture turbo charger components in Burnley for a top global automotive company.

But bosses at the Heasandford Industrial Estate-based firm are already pressing ahead with the huge order and need to add to the 150-strong workforce straight away.

The homegrown business, which produces car parts for Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover, as well as components for the aerospace and energy sectors, hopes to fill vacancies at all levels – but bosses insist they want to recruit from the Burnley area.

The move is part of the BCW’s ambitious expansion plans which could see the firm’s workforce double to 300 over the next five years in their bid to become a £25m. company.

In a fresh wave of good news for the town, BCW chiefs announced they had completed negotiations with another global car components company on a possible deal that could be worth up to £2.5m.

An additional 25 jobs could be created at BCW over the next two years and the company is now waiting for an order to be finalised which will see them produce drive train components for the global automotive industry.

BCW also revealed it was in talks with a top train manufacturer which could see the ambitious Burnley firm expand into creating parts for the rail industry.

Trevor Cassie, operations director at BCW, said: “Everything is looking extremely promising at the moment. We are looking to break into different sectors and diversify our business operations. We are not just an automotive and aerospace company, we want to delve into different sectors.

“We want to grow our business from a company with £14m. turnover to £25m. over the next five years.”

But the company’s first priority is to fill the 50 new roles as soon as possible and the company is pressing ahead with the recruitment process.

To meet the demands of the £4m. turbo charger order, which will triple BCW’s output, the firm is looking to employ operators, CNC operators, setters, engineers, team leaders as well as clerical and administrative staff.

Tony Kilfoyle, engineering director at BCW, said the company wanted to build up a skills base in the area and were looking to fill vacancies from Burnley’s labour pool.

He said: “We are one of the only automotive companies in the area, but we see potentially massive growth in the sector. We are trying to change things in Burnley. We are trying to bring business here and trying to move the town away from unskilled labour and bring back real skills.

“The best success we’ve had is bringing these people on board and turning them into automotive engineers. That is something we are looking to continue. We need a broad spectrum of people working throughout the company.”

BCW is organising a jobs fair which will take place on August 11th at the firm’s headquarters at the Lancashire Digital Technology Centre in Bancroft Road, Burnley.

Prospective employees will be able to come and see what the firm does and which roles are available.
