3M volunteers help East Lancs Hospice

The cheque on behalf of 3M employees was presented to Sharon Crymble by Jeremy Hall, shift supervisor of the sites valve assembly team which had won the award.

Nineteen volunteers from the site spent a day working in the grounds of the hospice, carrying out a range of jobs including gardening, painting and window cleaning.

And before they left, they presented a cheque for £500 to the hospice. This money had come from a 3M award won by a team at the Clitheroe site and they decided to donate it to the hospice.

Hospice fundraising manager Sharon Crymble said: “The hospice is always on the lookout for more people who can give us their time, treasure or talent, and the 3M volunteers did all of that.

“They provided us with the treasure of a donation, and their time and talent helped us a great deal. We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all involved for doing a brilliant job.

“We are very grateful for their efforts and for the donation.

“We have to raise more than £3 million a year to provide a special way of caring to our patients, either here in the hospice or in their own homes, and we depend very much on the generosity of the local community.”

The 3M volunteers were all taking part in the company’s 3M 4Good programme, which gives employees the opportunity to do a day’s work in the community on company time.

Among those rolling up their sleeves was Ben Mills, site manager at the Upbrooks plant, which develops and produces valves and components for asthma inhalers.

“It was very rewarding for us to get out and work in the community and we all had a good day,”said Ben.

“We were especially proud of our team of employees who had won the 3M award for driving growth within the business and decided they preferred the hospice to have the money than spend it on themselves.”
