11-hour dance music fesival gets go-ahead

Drop the Beat Festival promoters were given the go-ahead to stage the 11-hour dance event in Towneley Park this summer. Around 2,000 party-goers could be raving to 40 top DJs at the dance marathon which has been dubbed “Burnley’s Creamfields.”

Madge Nawaz, festival organiser and Burnley Remedy bar co-owner, said: “It is all official now. We have the bar licence and the entertainment licence. The council are really excited about it because it will be great for Burnley.

“There is a real buzz about it. We have had so much interest about the festival – not just from Burnley but as far away as Manchester and Burnley.

“We have got all the DJs lined up – some really big names – and everything is ready to go.”

Nelson DJ and actor Muzz Khan, who starred in blockbuster US series “24”, is the latest high profile act to be announced on the Drop the Beat bill.

The main arena will include huge stars including Ministry of Sound DJ Allister Whitehead, legendary Hacienda group K-Klass, world class DJ and Kissdafunk founder Rob Tissera and veteran DJ Stu Allan.

Around 40 more DJs will also be entertaining crowds in the festivals other House and Tech House arenas in the shadow of Towneley Hall.

Organisers hope the event could put Burnley back on the map with the biggest dance event the town has ever seen.

Tickets are £25, or £50 for VIP, and £3 from every ticket will go to support Burnley charity Furniture for Education Worldwide. It will take place from noon until 11pm on Saturday, August 16th.
