1,000 to take part in Pendle’s biggest pub crawl

Around 1,000 walkers are expected to take part in the charity pub crawl through the beautiful Pendle countryside.

The big event is raising money for Pendleside Hospice and has a 12-mile route taking in 13 pubs across Barley, Blacko, Barrowford and Fence.

Organisers say the 2014 walk could prove a record-breaker and help them smash their top total of £22,000.

Grahame Trudgill, one of the organisers from the Rotary Club of Burnley Pendleside, said: “The pub walk is now in its sixth year and has really gone from strength to strength. It has gone from 100 walker to more than 700 – and this year we are hoping to have 1,000 people take part.

“We hope to break our fund-raising record of more than £22,000.

“We have got 13 pubs along the route and they will be hosting music, entertainment and food, with barbecues, sandwiches and hog roasts.

“It will be a brilliant day and a very unique event – we have even had people who met on the walk, found love and got married!

“It is a very relaxed and friendly day and you can please yourself how much or little you want to do.

“It is a lovely walk and through the beautiful Pendle countryside.”

The event has become so popular that organisers will start half of the walkers off from the Pendle Inn in Barley and the other half from the Sparrowhawk in Fence.

Already several hundred people have signed up for the walk on June 14th but places are limited to 1,000 people.

The Worsthorne Brewery is brewing a special ale for the event which may be served at pubs along the route.

There is a competition to name the beer and the winner will get a gallon of the ale, a T-shirt and a glass.

Pubs along the route include the Pendle Inn, Barley, the Bay Horse Inn, Roughlee, the Rising Sun and Cross Gaites Inn at Blacko, Barrowford pubs including the Old Bridge Inn, George & Dragon, White Bear Inn, Lamb Inn WMC and Bombay Lounge, Fence pubs including the Sparrow Hawk, the White Swan, and the Fence Gate Inn and the Four Alls in Higham.

Registration is still only £10 and £5 of the registration fee goes to Rotary Charity, for distributing to various local and international charities.
