Colne’s outdoor market reopened yesterday and Nelson’s outdoor market will reopen tomorrow. Both will open on a reduced basis, following government advice.

Coun. Mohammed Iqbal, leader of Pendle Council, said: “We’re delighted that we can reopen our popular outdoor markets. It’s a welcome boost to our towns and we hope you’ll support our traders by shopping locally.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of our traders and customers are our number one priority so we’ve been working hard to ensure it will be safe for everyone.

“Both markets are opening on a reduced basis until we believe we can safely reopen them fully.”

Dean Langton, council chief executive, added: “We’re pleased to welcome traders and customers back to our markets. Strict social distancing measures are in place ensuring traders’ market stalls are at least two metres apart and there are clear two metre queue lines for customers.

“Signs are also around the markets to remind everyone to stay alert and follow the guidance on social distancing and hygiene.”

Staff will monitor the outdoor markets to ensure national guidance is being followed and provide support and advice to shoppers and traders.

And in line with national guidance, plans are now underway to reopen Nelson and Colne’s indoor markets from Monday June 15th if it is believed to be safe to do so.

Coun. Iqbal added: “We welcome you all back with open arms but please remember to shop safely and stay two metres apart from anyone outside your household.”
