Help For Heroes concert at Turf Moor

Nelson pals Cherie Cairns (23), and Paul Seedall (31) wanted to do something to raise money for the soldiers’ charity while bringing the community together.

And because Cherie has been brought up surrounded by Servicemen and born into an Army family, it was only right she helped the charity “closest to her heart”.

The idea came about while Cherie, who lives in Brunswick Street and works at the Prince of Wales pub in Leeds Road, was listening to some of her favourite singers.

“I got thinking that music connects people and can even raise money, so I thought why not put on a concert,” Cherie said.

“Help for Heroes is a charity close to my heart. I was born and raised within the armed forces so I caught a glimpse of what the troops go through on a day-to-day basis. I was born in Germany and have travelled all over because my dad was in the Army.

“It is in amazing charity and the soldiers who fight for our country every day need our help.”

The money raised will be used to help such soldiers and families should they be injured, or find themselves in hardship or sickness.

The concert will be held on Friday, June 10th, at Turf Moor’s 1882 Lounge and will include local singers, bands, choirs and dancers. Expect to hear an array of music from the likes of Linus, Rosie Jones, Teabag and Jacey Jay Carter who will all be entertaining at family friendly gig.

Co-organiser Paul who works for Intalekt in Nelson said: “Already we have done quite a lot in such a short time. We want to make it a real community event as we all know someone out there fighting. There will also be raffles and auctions taking place on the night and ex-servicemen telling their stories.”

The Prince of Wales is also backing the gig. Manager Mr Bruce Manville said: “I think it’s great what they are doing and we are behind them 100%. Here at the pub we’re also going to run a few charity things leading up to the concert.”

Adding to this the duo are already planning a calendar photo shoot, knock out pool and poker tournaments and Cherie is going to have the Help for Heroes logo tattooed on to her.

Cherie added: “I’m not sure where I’m going to have it yet but it’s such a fantastic cause. I hope everyone will help by buying a ticket for the event as all the money raised goes direct to the charity.”
