Nelson car chase stopped by stinger
According to a police statement, the lengthy pursuit began at 7.25pm yesterday evening, when a concerned motorist advised a nearby patrol of a black Audi S3 overtaking erratically on Leeds Road in Nelson.
The vehicle in question was subsequently signalled to stop on Broadway but, despite the authorities' efforts, it made off at speeds over twice the speed limit, haphazardly running red lights on Broadway and Manchester Road in the process.

The offending Audi was then spotted in Burnley and on the M65, at which point resources and plans were put in place to safely stop the car. As it reached the outskirts of Preston, the vehicle - which can sell for £32,000 - was 'stung' twice, which involves authorities laying out a length of metal spikes used to impede wheeled vehicles by puncturing their tyres.
The driver duly stopped and was arrested.
"[We] just wanted to highlight that such dangerous driving - putting peoples lives at risk - will not be tolerated in Nelson," read the comment from Sergeant Shaun Pearson of Nelson, Brierfield and Barrowford Police. "We will use tactics and resources from across Lancashire to tackle such issues."
"The driver is currently in police cells whilst we decide how thick of a book to throw at them!" he added.
