An exclusive premiere of the BBC-made programme was held for the community at Burnley Mechanics and the show will air on the CBeebies Channel on Friday at 5 p.m.

The programme sees youngsters recruiting people in the community to help on a project at Pennine Lancashire Community Farm.

Mr Bloom and the children hold a “plantathon” and set to work creating an outdoor classroom, two polytunnels, a pumpkin oven, an insect house and vegetable beds.

A big celebration is held at the end of the episode to welcome families around Stoneyholme to their new community garden.

BBC producer Jon Hancock said: “This was a special episode. We have never done anything like this before. It is a really exciting show and a lovely story.

“There is such a great transformation from before and after. The children have been great too. It is nice to create something that has a legacy. There is the potential for Mr Bloom to come back here again.”

The plot will be made available for all the community to use and will be maintained by Pennine Lancashire Community Farm, which works with communities to raise awareness of sustainable living, traditional and local food production and to promote community cohesion and social inclusion.

Manager of Pennine Lancashire Community Farm James Horsford said: “It has been a great experience and a fun experience.

“What really makes this garden a success is that the community has come on board and the community uses it.

“Around 140 children from the local school and 30 adults with learning difficulties have used it since January.

“The success of it going forward remains that, as a community from right across Burnley, we continue to use this garden.”
