A group of top riders from Ribble Valley cycling club used a lot of pedal power to break their own record in a sponsored relay marathon. The event took place in the Rotunda of St George's Shopping Centre, Preston. Residents of a Lancashire town took the streets to protest at plans for a high-security prison to be built on their doorsteps. Fylde RAP (Residents Against the Prison) braved the rain to tour round the centre of Kirkham collecting signatures for a petition and make local people aware of the scale of the proposed prison next to the Open Prison in the town
