Ann Brennan is a part-time teacher, a marriage guidance counsellor, a prison visitor, a housewife and mother of four daughters. She is also blind. It is 15 years since she lost her sight, but she has never lost sight of the need to make the most of life. Ann is pictured with her guide dog Cindy

When Ernie Thomas told his friends of the 40,000 miles safari trip he is planning they just laughed, for Ernie, of Promenade North, Cleveleys, is a 74-year-old great-grandfather. But laughter turned to amazement as he showed them the seven-ton truck he has converted for the journey, with the help of 22-year-old Jim Hodgkinson, of Poulton Old Road, Blackpool

Parents of Lytham St Annes sea cadets are in the dog house. For only one serves on the special parents' committee - and that's not good enough says the corps commanding officer, Lt Alan Daniels. At their headquarters, TS Queenborough in Dock Road, Lytham, the 50-strong cadet corps is thriving - but little credit can be handed to the parents claims Lt Daniels. Despite the rain, wind and soaking wet grounds, youth club members from the Lancashire association managed to put on a good show for their first event Country Fair. The members, from clubs all over Lancashire, proved that it takes more than a little rain to dampen their enthusiasm.
