Bobby Charlton, Preston North End's new manager, had the welcome mat rolled out for him by the Phoenix Club at the Guild Hall and, in turn, promised the people of Preston First Division football. A monster and a donkey were all part of the procession during Chorley Carnival. The monster surprised some spectators, but the donkey had a friendly reception, although one little girl didn't know what to make of him and his collection box

Bath time was never like this... and what a sneaky way these grown-ups have of keeping us clean! Children of the Hartington Road Day Nursery, Preston, don't know anything about centigrade and fahrenheit but they reckon that clothes are just a waste of time when the sun is beating down and there's a paddling pool outside. But never mind the heatwave...
