Local historian and Burnley Civic Trust member Roger Frost gives us a fascinating potted history on each of the watering holes.
9. Tim Bobbin
The Tim Bobbin Inn, on Padiham Road, was originally a farm cottage but, in 1701 it was rebuilt though it did not become a public house for some time. It was well known as a centre for cockfighting when it opened as a pub. The name is derived from John Collier, alias Tim Bobbin, a Lancashire dialect poet, from Rochdale, whose work is still remembered today. The inn has only recently closed after the brewery spent a lot of money restoring the building Photo: S
