Padiham's Jet Set Angels take flight around the world

And with £10,000 raised and 13,000 tiny angels lovingly created in the heart of a classroom, the project has certainly helped to put Padiham on the world map.

Jet Set Angels were launched by Mrs Carol Carlile, a teacher at St John's RC Primary School in Padiham, to help raise cash for one of her pupils, brave Tia Taggart (seven) who is battling cancer.

And an impromptu rendition of Happy Birthday from top band G4 was the icing on the cake for Carol.

She went along to see her favourite band, who were X Factor runners up in 2004, at Burnley Mechanics Theatre

Her colleagues had secretly arranged for her to meet them afterwards and the four piece band were only too happy to get on board with the project.

It was another unforgettable moment in the Jet Set Angels project that began with children making tiny angels to sell for £1 each to help raise money towards a holiday for Tia and her family.

But as word spread through social media about the angel project more people, including a host of celebrities and sporting stars around the world, lent their support by posing for pictures with the angels.

They have been pictured in America, Australia, Thailand and the latest destination is a Norwegian ice station in Antartica!

The project has raised over £10,000 for Tia and also ward 84 at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital where she is receiving treatment.

Carol said: “We could never have imagined the project would take off like it has but we have many more ideas in the pipe-line to keep the impetus going.”
