Paul Stannard, of Lean Training Club, Dunnockshaw, contacted Pendleside to offer to fund-raise for the charity in memory of his uncle, Tim Stannard, a popular chip shop owner from Rossendale.

Paul said: “My uncle was cared for recently at Pendleside and I heard about the dedicated care they were able to offer and that the patients are allowed visitors during these difficult times, even though it is restricted to just a few. But I knew it was the best place for him to be and that the care is excellent.”

Paul decided to ask the members of the gym to give donations in lieu of paying for bottles of water or coffees. A JustGiving page was also set up for any other contributions.

Paul added: “I am delighted that this amount was raised from just water and coffee donations, I think the members were extra generous as they know it’s a charity close to my heart.”

Christina Cope, head of corporate fund-raising at Pendleside, said: “On behalf of Pendleside I would like to say a big thank you to Paul and the team at Lean Training Club. I’m really happy too that Paul has said they would support Pendleside for 2021 and will be one of our Charity of the Year Partners. “
