As well as Lancashire County Council's Community Testing being axed after this weekend, the number of government Mobile Test Units based in Pendle is being halved from next week.

This weekend, the borough is set to have no Mobile Test Units at all.

Lib Dem Coun. David Whipp said: "Pendle people are seeing amongst the highest infection rates in the country.

"Cutting testing isn't going to improve things. Making it more difficult to get tested will make things worse for individuals and our communities.

"If you have symptoms of COVID-19, please self-isolate and try and get a Home Test Kit by phoning 119 or going online to the NHS website. This is the safest way of getting tested.

"It's a disgrace that testing is being cut in this way, but we've come to expect no better from the shower purporting to be leading the fight against the virus nationally.

"It is beyond time for them to fix the testing system and introduce proper local tracing of cases and their contacts.

"We're living through a nightmare that only gets worse."
