And his unexpected appearance certainly proved that while he may be extinct the chance to have a laugh and bring some fun to communities facing a second week of lockdown certainly isn't.

The friendly T Rex was spotted shopping in Padiham's Tesco at the weekend and eagle eyed student Rick Cunliffe managed to catch him on camera in the car park.

Rick, who is a speech and language therapy student at Leeds Beckett University said: "I have no idea who it is but he did tell me a joke before he went back to his car."

Doyathinkhesaurus!

Then the fierce but friendly dino went for pizza at PK's in Padiham and was later seen again wandering around the Sycamore Avenue area of Burnley.

Undoubtedly, they have a critical role."
