Burnley to remain under local lockdown for a further week

Burnley, along with the rest of East Lancashire, parts of West Yorkshire, and Greater Manchester were subjected to tighter restrictions last Friday following a spike in cases throughout the region.

A total of 31 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in the town since that date - one today - and Mr Higginbotham said he was pushing for restrictions to be lifted as soon as possible.

He said: "The current restrictions are going to remain in place for another seven days pending review but I am pushing for these to be lifted as soon as the data allows.

"The best way for this to happen is by testing, so a mobile testing unit has been secured and will be operating out of the car park at Turf Moor this weekend."

• You should NOT meet people you do not live with inside a private home or garden, except where you have formed a support bubble.

• Do NOT visit someone else’s home or garden even if they live outside of the affected areas (unless it is as part of a support bubble for a vulnerable person).

• You CAN go to pubs, restaurants and other leisure venues - but only with members of your own household.

• You CAN meet in public outdoor spaces in groups of no more than six people, unless the group includes only people from two households. Social distancing should be observed at all times with people you do not live with – unless they are in your support bubble.

• You CAN travel to work. however, workplaces must implement Covid-19 Secure guidance.
