The treats were given out at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, and also to staff at Airedale General Hospital, as a token of appreciation for the hard work the teams are doing to keep communities safe during the pandemic.

The gifts came from Delta Taxis, which operates across Burnley and Pendle, as a morale booster for the NHS workers.

A spokesman for the firm said: "The NHS has always done a magnificent job but this has been even more evident since the emergence of Covid 19.

"It is important to recognise that, as well as the doctors and nurses, it's the porters, cleaners and a whole host of other personnel who work within the hospitals keeping our communities safe.

"This was a small token of appreciation for the wonderful work they do."

Delta Taxis has continued to run throughout the pandemic and was among the first to offer a shopping delivery service for NHS workers.

The spokesman added that if anyone knew of any vulnerable or isolated people needing help or assistance with food packages or deliveries to contact them on 01282 888888 or contact the company's community help team by emailing [email protected]
