Valley primary school's plea as it runs low on hand gel

A headteacher is calling on parents and members of the public in Chatburn to donate a spare bottle of hand gel or liquid soap.

Mrs Emma Gardiner, of Chatburn Primary School, took to Facebook to appeal to local folk requesting the donations to ensure hygiene and safety at the Sawley Road school.

She stated: "If any parents can donate a 500ml bottle of hand gel, liquid soap (with pump top) and/or a box of tissues, we would be extremely grateful.

"All the extra hygiene measures are proving to be quite costly and with an already shrinking budget, we are finding the ongoing costs difficult to cover."

A request has been made for hand gel and soap

Speaking to the Clitheroe Advertiser, she said: "We have had to make staffing cuts this year as the budget is so low so this is an extra worry for schools like ours.

"We have also had support from Valley Toilets, who have provided us with an outdoor sink and two portable toilets as we haven't got adequate facilities to enable all the 120+ children to keep washing their hands as is now required to keep the school COVID-secure."

Anyone wishing to donate the hand gel should contact the school on 01200 441426.
