Daniel Martins has conquered his fear of heights to pursue a career as a pilot.

A student at Blessed Trinity R C College in Burnley, Daniel has just won the Ogden Trust School Year 10 Physicist of the Year award.

The Ogden Trust promotes the teaching and learning of physics and winning Blessed Trinity's award will give Daniel access to grants and scholarships through them.

Daniel was praised by his teachers as having a 'hunger to learn' and always 'reads around the subject we are covering.'

Daniel said he was honoured to receive the award as he has ambitions for a career in aviation.

He said: "I want to be a pilot and am already taking gliding lessons at Bowland Forest to prepare for it.

"I used to be afraid of heights but thankfully I have got over it."
