Young artists in the Ribble Valley brushed off their paint sets and put a little sparkle into Christmas.

They entered a competition to design Ribble Valley Mayor Stella Brunskill’s official festive card.

The competition attracted over 100 entries and the winners were Andrew Allen, of Thorneyholme Primary School in Dunsop Bridge, and Betty Waddington, of Ribblesdale High School in Clitheroe.

Not only have their designs featured on the mayor’s Christmas card, but the artistic two have received their own pack of cards and, along with the other entries, will be featured on Ribble Valley Borough Council’s arts development social media pages.

Coun. Stella Brunskill said: “This has been an incredibly tough year and I know many families are looking forward to spending some quality time with loved ones at Christmas. I wanted to make Christmas a bit special too, so decided to hold a competition to design the mayoral festive card.

“The standard of entries was very high and choosing the winners was difficult, so congratulations go to Andrew and Betty for their fantastic designs.

“I would thank everyone who took part in the competition and wish all Ribble Valley residents a safe and happy Christmas.”
