The event, organised by volunteers from Friends of Worsthorne and Hurstwood, saw former Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez take centre stage. Joined by his daughter, the ex-Claret pushed the plunger at 7pm, triggering a burst of Christmas lights and a firework display that lit up the sky to the delight of families gathered on the village green.

Shortly afterwards, Father Christmas arrived on his sleigh and, with the help of one of his elves, handed out bags of sweets to children waiting to greet him.

Music came from Burnley Silver Band, who played a mix of carols and festive favourites. The Friends of Worsthorne and Hurstwood, who were thanked for giving up their time to run the event, also ran a stall selling hot mulled wine and cider. Burnley Council and the Parish Council were also thanked for their support.
