Burnley Council's Home Improvement Agency shortlisted for two awards

Burnley Council has been shortlisted for two national awards recognising the difference its Home Improvement Agency (HIA) is making to people’s lives across the borough.
The HIA has been named a finalist for Home Improvement Agency of the Year at the Foundations National Healthy Housing Awards 2025, while caseworker Adele Ewens has also been shortlisted for Caseworker of the Year for her work helping older and vulnerable residents live safely and independently in their own homes.
Since it launched in 2022, Burnley Council’s Home Improvement Agency has supported over 4000 residents. The team helps people to stay safe, warm and independent by arranging home adaptations, essential repairs and practical support. This includes work such as installing stairlifts and level-access showers, improving heating, and helping people returning home from hospital.
The HIA also offers advice and access to grants for people on low incomes, as well as a handyperson service for small jobs that can make a big difference, helping to prevent falls and accidents, reduce delayed hospital discharges, improve home security, boost energy efficiency, and prevent fires or carbon monoxide incidents.

CouncillorJack Launer, Burnley Council’s Executive Member for Housing, Health & Culture said: “We’re really proud of Adele and the whole HIA team for the work they do every day to help people live safely and comfortably at home. Being shortlisted for not one but two national awards is fantastic recognition for their care, compassion and hard work.”
