Briercliffe resident launches community fundraising event after helping save local centre
A dedicated Briercliffe resident who stepped forward to help protect her local community centre is now organising a major fund-raising event aimed at bringing local people together.
Bobbie Burton joined the community centre committee last year after learning that the facility could be at risk of being lost to the community. Since then, she has become heavily involved in supporting its activities, helping with bookings, managing the centre's Facebook page and assisting with fundraising efforts.
Her commitment has also seen her establish three voluntary community groups under the banner of The Briercliffe Patronus Project, including a coffee morning, a toddler group, and a children's arts, crafts and games group.
Speaking about her involvement, Bobbie said: “Through these groups I have had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful people and seeing first-hand the positive difference that community spirit can make."
The groups have grown in popularity and have helped create opportunities for residents of all ages to socialise, make new connections and access community support.
Now, she is turning her attention to a new challenge – organising a community fundraising event on Sunday, June 14th from 12-30pm that will bring together residents, charities, businesses, community organisations and volunteers for a day of family-friendly entertainment.
The event is being organised with the aim of supporting local causes while celebrating the strength of community spirit in Briercliffe.
Bobbie said: “The event will bring together local residents, community groups, charities, businesses and volunteers for a day of fun, entertainment, fundraising and community engagement.”
She added that the event is intended to create an enjoyable day for families across the area while helping to raise funds for important local initiatives.
