Top Lancashire cheeses showcased at food festival

Booths cheese specialists from its stores in Clitheroe, Scotforth in Lancaster and Garstang will be attending the second annual Nigel Haworth’s Fantastic Food Festival, at Blackburn Rovers’ Ewood Park on June 11th and 12th, and organised by the Michelin stared chef.

The specialists will run tasting sessions of four local cheeses – Blacksticks Blue, Booths special reserve Lancashire, Mrs Kirkham’s Smoked Lancashire and Butler’s Pendle Hill, which is made from sheep milk, in the event’s cheese room which has been sponsored by Booths.

They will be joined by John Barnes, Booths licensed specialist, who has selected wines to accompany the cheeses.

He said: “Although cheese tasting and wine tasting is very much down to personal taste we are attending the Fantastic Food Festival to showcase some of the best cheese from Booths Country.

“There is a growing importance in food and its regionality as people are taking more interest in where food comes from and in particularly the food that comes from their area.

“As this interest has grown the quality of the product keeps getting better too and Booths has been right at the forefront of supporting local farmers and producers.

“Cheese and wine is a growing pleasure for many people and for those who have not tried it before a blue cheese and sweet wine can be a revelation. It is a fabulous combination.”

As well as running cheese and wine tastings, Booths is supplying a hamper of the finest locally sourced fresh and seasonal produce, as well as bottled ale and cheeses, as a competition prize at the festival.
