Burnley Oliver Ryan launches petition calling on Transdev’s Burnley Bus Company to halt planned changes to ticketing

Burnley MP Oliver Ryan has launched a petition calling on Transdev’s Burnley Bus Company to halt planned changes to ticketing that will increase costs for families, students and commuters across the borough.

In less than 48 hours, the petition has attracted nearly 700 signatures, with parents from across the area contacting the MP to raise concerns about rising bus costs – particularly the impact on under-19 tickets and school travel.

From January 2026, the company is scrapping local area tickets and moving to a single Lancashire-wide product. While this is being presented as a simplification, the change means that many people who rely on buses for everyday journeys – including the school run and getting to work – will end up paying more.

The MP has also sent a letter to the CEO of Transdev UK, Guillaume Chanussot calling for an urgent meeting on the matter.

An example highlighted by the MP is that a family with two school-age children who each need a weekly U19 pass will face an increase of around £54 per month in travel costs.

Mr Ryan said: “My petition’s already nearly 700 signatures. This is a massive issue for parents and families. An extra £54 a month is a serious hit to the household budget. I’m asking people to sign my petition to stop this Transdev cash grab.”

The MP says he has been contacted by parents from right across Burnley, Padiham and Brierfield who are worried about how they will afford the extra costs, particularly for getting children to and from school.

The petition calls on the bus company to rethink the changes and to bring forward alternative ticketing options that protect frequent local users from higher costs.
