Burnley Council Hosts First Start-Up Burnley Networking Event

Following the success of the Starting Your Own Business workshop at Burnley Business Week, Burnley Council’s Economy and Development team hosted its first Start-Up Burnley event last week at Impact Conferencing, based at Life Church in Burnley.

Attendees from the Business Week workshop had asked for a follow-on networking opportunity, which led to a dedicated session bringing together aspiring entrepreneurs from across the borough.

The event brought aspiring entrepreneurs together to hear from successful local businesswoman Lesley Burrows, learn about the support available from Burnley Council and Growth Lancashire, and connect with others taking their first steps into self-employment.

Delegate Abby Hennessey, a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, who also attended various Business Week sessions, said: “It was great to hear about other businesses starting up in Burnley. It was both motivating and inspiring to hear Lesley and Simon’s stories too. Wonderful to hear of all the support available and I’m looking forward to attending more workshops in the future. I am also excited to connect and collaborate with other business owners I met today. I came away with lots of new ideas!”

Cllr Lubna Khan, Burnley Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Growth, said: “Events like this really show the ambition and creativity we have here in Burnley. We want to see that grow even further, and I’d encourage anyone thinking about starting a business to get involved with our workshops in the new year. There’s a huge amount of support available, and we’re here to help people turn their ideas into reality.”

Burnley Council will be running a series of free workshops in the new year for people looking to set up a business; will be posted on the council’s website in due course.
