Theatre Review: The Queen of the North at the Octagon Theatre, Bolton

The queen in question is Pat Phoenix, who reigned supreme as Elsie Tanner in the early years of “Coronation Street.”

Stepping into the shoes of such a TV legend could not have been easy, but Lynda Rooke, who played Jill Patrick in “Hollyoaks,” rises to the occasion with consummate professionalism.

She is on the stage from start to finish and her hard work and dedication to the part are only to be admired, as they clearly were by the audience.

Pat Phoenix’s life was almost as dramatic off the cobbles as it was on, and this is a story of relationships good and bad. It is nostalgia that will touch a nerve with many, but more than anything else, it is a fitting tribute to an actress who was held with such great affection.

The Queen of the North runs until May 26th. Tickets can be obtained on 01204-520661 or at www.octagonbolton.co.uk
