Ribble Valley International Piano Week

DESCRIBED by BBC Music magazine as an “unmissable event”, Ribble Valley International Piano Week launches on July 8th in spectacular fashion with a two-piano concert from two internationally renowned pianists with local connections - Martin Roscoe and Peter Donohue.

Over recent years, Ribble Valley International Piano Week has staged performances by some of the world’s most respected musicians – John Lill, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet and Paul Lewis amongst many others – and provides a platform for rising stars such as Benjamin Grosvenor, one of the BBC new generation artists.

This year’s performances include recitals starting at midday by Ian Buckle , Clare Hammond and young Estonian rising star Mihkel Poll with evening recitals starting at 7-45 by prize winning Swedish pianist Martin Sturfält and then finally by Jin Ju - whose recent performance for the Pope can be seen on Youtube.

The week’s events close on Saturday July 14th with the Norwegian Vertavo Quartet, who have been winning awards and rave reviews on every continent. Martin Roscoe joins them to play piano quartet, piano solo and piano quintet

A wide range of repertoire will be performed, ranging from Bach to Satie via Beethoven, Liszt and Albeniz and with the quality of musicians these are recitals not to be missed. All recitals will take place at the Westholme Theatre (part of the Westholme School complex) in Meins Road near Blackburn (BB2 6QU) and will feature, for the first time, pre-concert talks by Jin Ju and one of the Vertavo quartet in conversation with Martin Roscoe. These will start at 6-45 p.m. and arefree to ticket holders.
