Review: The Woodland Spa, Crow Wood, Burnley

Although the outdoor offering, featuring a garden, terrace, hot tubs and infinity pool is not yet open, there is plenty more inside to help you kick back, relax and indulge the senses.

We visited the spa on a Tuesday evening and although the gym was busy, we had the spa almost to ourselves. We were given fluffy white robes, towels and slippers and talked through the thermal experience.

The first taste we got of the facilities were the sumptuous changing rooms, but move into the spa itself and you will see no expense, or attention to detail, has been spared.

All neutral tones, marble and mosaic tiles, the spa is a complete escape.

It includes Roman foot baths, hydrotherapy pool, serenity pool, steam room, sauna, salt steam room, saunarium and ice fountain.

There are also a selection of showers and though I declined to try the ice cold bucket shower, the tropical rain one was extremely pleasant.

I have to say my favourite was the serenity pool, a warm pool with low light surrounded by luxury loungers, complete with reading lamps. twinkling lights in the ceiling and a flame effect running the width of the pool. I could quite easily have stayed in there all evening, it is the ultimate in relaxation.

The heated loungers surrounding the hydrotherapy pool in the centre of the spa were also a highlight for me, the only things missing were a glass of wine and a good book.

I left, slightly reluctantly, more than two hours later stress free, completely relaxed and totally rejuvenated. At £39 for non-members of Crow Wood to experience the thermal journey, the spa certainly isn’t cheap. But, nevertheless, a reasonable price to pay for the ultimate in spa luxury.
