Burnley-based musician gains major international contract

A BURNLEY-BASED musician has gained a major international contract to write the music for a forthcoming drama.

Steve Reid, from Cliviger, has been commissioned to write the theme for a new BBC six-part serial to be recorded over the next few weeks.

The programmes are all based around a northern market town with each episode focusing on a different market trader, exploring the complex lives behind the businesses. The series is due to be launched in February and will broadcast on Thursday afternoons on Radio 4 with the repeats available on BBC i-player.

The dramas will explore the private lives of the people working on the stalls covering some serious issues with elements of humour.

“The challenge is to create something with a ‘street wise’ feel that can encompass the overall aim of the scripts,” said Steve, who runs the music and media degrees at the new university campus in Burnley, and has recently completed his Masters degree in scriptwriting for film, TV and radio.
