‘Blue Peter’ presenter in London 2012 Olympics concert

The children’s favourite will join the orchestra this Saturday, March 31st, to present sports-inspired music at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, at 3 p.m.

The performances will include the theme music from Chariots of Fire, Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 (including Land of Hope and Glory), and Also Sprach Zarathustra (the theme from the film 2001 A Space Odyssey).

Conductor Richard Davis will be taking the winners’ podium for the event, alongside Barney, who makes his debut with the orchestra. Manchester United Foundation Youth Choir will also perform.

The BBC Philharmonic are in training for the concert, having recently recorded the theme tune for all of the BBC’s Olympics coverage, written by Manchester band Elbow.

There will be lots of pre and post-concert fun too, including The Sounds of Sport, Tackle that Tune, Fantasy Football and Beat the Mascot, as well as the chance to have a go presenting BBC Radio 5 live’s News and Sport.

The BBC Philharmonic Family Concert is part of the London 2012 Festival, bringing leading artists from all over the world together in UK wide celebrations.
