A fun-filled day saw families enjoying the first ever joint Read and Simonstone village gala.

Hundreds of people were treated to a host of stalls, games and attractions at the event in Whalley Road.

Youngsters played beat the goalie, tackled an assault course and event met a magnificent shire horse from Thwaites Brewery.

The big community event was held to raise money for a life-saving defibrillator and donations for Macmillan Nurses.
