Burnley votes against elected mayor

The people of Burnley have voted against having a directly elected mayor for the town.

A total of 10,986 people voted in favour of keeping the current set-up with 8,694 voting for an elected mayor.

The result means council leader Mark Townsend will retain his position.

Turnout was 30.7%.
