Crews called to extinguish Burnley derelict mill fire

Firefighters were called into action to tackle a fire at a derelict mill in Whittam Street yesterday afternoon (Monday).

Fire crews were in attendance for approximately 30 minutes.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters from Burnley were called to reports of a fire in the open near a derelict building on Whittam Street, Burnley.

"On arrival they found the fire involved a derelict mill. Two firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used a hose reel, triple extension ladder and ventilation unit to extinguish the fire.

"Crews were in attendance for approximately 30 minutes."
