Padiham debate over fracking safety

Speakers from Friends of the Earth and Lancashire Nanas Against Fracking addressed the gathering at St Leonard’s Church regarding evidence of the communal and environmental impacts of fracking.

The lively debate prompted a former conventional gas engineer to speak in favour of fracking, resulting in an concerns being expressed over the safety of the highly controversial and somewhat unconventional technology which is employed to extract shale gas while dozens of locals expressed their willingness to join groups against fracking.

David Penney, from Keep East Lancs Frack Free, said: “We are pleased so many local residents came to the meeting to find out more about fracking and the threat to Padiham and East Lancashire. We hope they will do their own research into the facts against fracking and join the movement to keep Lancashire frack free. We’ve got to stop fracking in its tracks otherwise one well will lead to thousands of wells, and serious risks to our environment and public health.”

The next meeting of Keep East Lancs Frack Free is on Tuesday, June 14th, at 7pm at the Old Library, on Colne Road, in Burnley.
