Firefighters were called out to rescue a horse that fell into the canal this afternoon.

The animal became stranded in the water at an area known as Molly Wood Lane, Hapton, just after 1pm.

Two fire engines and crews from Burnley and Nelson were called to the scene.

They mounted a rescue operation and led the stricken animal to safety.
