Diners are tucking into a Lancashire delicacy to help a cancer charity go from rags to riches.

To celebrate the re-launch of its Fitzy's Bar at the Best Western Higher Trapp Hotel in Simonstone rag pudding was added to the menu.

And for every one sold management donated £1 to the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

And in six months running up to the end of August diners scoffed their way through 629 of the puds, mincemeat and onion encased in a suet crust, equating to a generous helping of £629 for Rosemere which, among its ongoing local projects, are the new chemotherapy unit at Burnley General Hospital, to which it has contributed half of the build costs and a new breast care boutique within the hospital’s Breast Care Unit.

Assistant manager at the Higher Trapp, Katie Redpath: “Our rag pudding is going down very well and will be remaining on our menu for the foreseeable future. It’s very much a local dish so it’s fitting that in enjoying it, diners are helping a very worthwhile local charity.”

Rosemere Cancer Foundation spends the donations it receives on vital equipment, research and training that cannot be funded by the NHS.

The charity strives to bring world class cancer treatments and services to local cancer patients throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria via their local hospitals and the region’s three specialist treatment centres. These specialist centres are the Rosemere Cancer Centre at the Royal Preston Hospital, which provides all local radiotherapy treatment, Blackpool Victoria Hospital for blood cancers and the Royal Blackburn for liver cancers.

It also funds those things that can make the cancer journey a little more comfortable such as free access to complementary therapies for all newly diagnosed patients. If you would like more information visit its website at
