Blue Peter favourites Helen Skelton, left, and Barney Harwood will be broadcasting live from Towneley Park next month, as part of a nationwide tour to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Burnley is one of just nine locations in the UK taking part in the popular children’s programme’s Big Olympic Tour, which is following the Olympic Torch relay.

The 30-minute programme will be broadcast live from Towneley on Saturday, June 23rd, and will be a guide to the Olympics for children.

The programme will be followed by a free live event for families, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Olympic Torch relay will be in Burnley the same day.

Mick Cartledge, Burnley Council’s director of community services, said: “It was great when Burnley was picked to host the torch relay, and now we’ve been chosen as one of the few places across the UK to host Blue Peter’s Big Olympic Tour as well, which makes it an Olympic double-whammy for Burnley.”
