X Factor winner and solo singer Matt Cardle is set to flick the switch on Burnley’s Christmas lights.
Matt, who has just released his third album, will be joined on stage by local and national talent during the festive show on Sunday, November 24th.
Bosses at Burnley Council said this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever. Matt will perform some of his hits on stage before switching on the lights.
The fun starts from noon with street entertainers and fairground rides and Nickelodeon cartoon character Poppy Cat will be in The Mall to meet fans at noon, 1pm and 2pm.
Father Christmas is expected to make an appearance on his sleigh with members of Padiham Rotary Club.
This year’s show will bring together top local and national performers to a stage which is to be specially constructed in St James’s Street at the end of the pedestrianised area, close to the junction with Hammerton Street.
Video screens are also being brought in to relay the show to visitors.
The stage show will start from 3pm with many local artists already agreeing to take part, including singer Jess McGlinchey, The Flat Cap Pack, Burnley band The Rushe, Minnie B and Megan J. Ingham from the Doc Redeye Music label. Chorley-based X Factor finalist (2011) Jonjo Karr will also be taking part with his new band.
Other performances include girl group Be Minor, Giles Potter (X Factor’s Judges’ Houses contestant), Mr Zip (Britain’s Got Talent), Chris Maloney (X Factor), Next of Kin (X Factor) and Reconnected (UK chart act).
It will finish around 5-45pm with a sparkling rooftop firework display.
