Lola the showgirl was strutting the streets of Burnley at the weekend preparing to take to the Mechanics stage.
Barry Manilow helped create “Copacabana” with his upbeat music telling of Lola and Tony’s romance which has captivated millions.
Now it is leaving Broadway for Burnley with its dazzling costumes, spectacular sets and sensational choreography adding up to a week of super entertainment from Burnley Light Opera Society who have splashed out £30,000 on the production.
An aspiring songwriter dreams of creating the world’s next big hit as his patient wife vies for his attention, and his dreams lead him to the famous Copacabana nightclub in New York. Lola Lamarr strides into the Copacabana – where “music and passion were always in fashion” – and you need to head to Burnley Mechanics to find out the rest.
“Copacabana” will be presented at Burnley Mechanics from Saturday, November 10th, until the 17th. Tickets are £10 on the first three nights and then £13.50. Call the Mechanics box office on 664400.
With professional dancers playing the “Copa” boys, spectacular songs and some cabaret-style seating, director Anthony Williams and musical director Jonathan Chalker are onto a winner.
