The countdown to Christmas is officially on.
Families braved the cold for a fun-packed festive-filled afternoon of song and dance at Burnley’s Christmas lights switch-on.
This year’s event had that little bit of X-Factor as well with performances from show finalists Amelia Lily and Luke Friend.
The pair then returned to the stage for the big switch-on before a huge fireworks display finished off the festivities.
During the afternoon, the town was a hive of excitement with street entertainers, stilts and fairground rides keeping the young, and in some cases the old, well entertained. Nikelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles even made an appearance, young fans queuing to have their photo taken with the heroes in a half shell.
St John’s Cliviger and Unity School choirs and the Sanderson Dance School got the show underway on the specially constructed stage, which could be found at the bottom of St James’ Street, before performances from the likes of Janet Devlin and Kingsland Road from the X Factor and from Britain’s Got Talent, Jai McDowall, Harry Mondryk, James Smith, Bailey McConnell and Gabz.
The event was organised by Burnley Borough Council and Charter Walk Shopping Centre in partnership with 2BR, Piper Music Management Ltd and Doc Red Eye.
