Literary types should get their creative juices flowing at Burnley's first ever Literary Festival '“ a ten day event across Burnley town centre.

If you fancy yourself as a writer or creating a comic book tale there are several workshops to help.

There will be a free creative coffee and cakes workshop on Tuesday, November 1st, which takes place from noon to 2pm at The Paddock in Burnley town centre, or the Creative Comic Workshop which will be held on Monday, October 31st from 1pm to 3pm.

Bestselling authors and poets will be holding readings and creative workshops, and dramatic theatre performances including Burnley Youth Theatre’s Once Around the Sun will bring well known and new stories to life.

There’s also a ghost walk with award winning actress and story teller Ursula Holden Gill, and Friday, November 4th will be a dedicated Roald Dahl Day.

The festival opens on Saturday, October 29th at 11am at Burnley Library.

Hundreds of donated books will also be available to read throughout the festival from the Reading Room in Charter Walk and through the Books on a Bench book exchange which will see boxes packed with books available on benches in the town centre for people to read and swap.

Town centre manager Catherine Price said: “The Literary Festival is the first of its kind in Burnley is and being organised by Burnley Borough Council, with the support of Arts Council funding, McDonalds sponsorship, and town centre partners.

“The event is aimed at supporting and showcasing the arts and literary talent in Burnley and the surrounding area and also supporting the town centre, with all the venues being located in Burnley town centre.

“We are delighted with the response so far with lots of people booking on to the events throughout the week. Schools and pupils have also had an extra opportunity to be involved through taking part in a literary Game of Consequences.

“The work of schools will be displayed in the Reading Lounge for people to view and choose their favourite.

“The festival is set to be a wonderful literary showcase and the town centre will be alive with literary themed events for everyone to enjoy.”

You can pop into Burnley Mechanics Theatre, Burnley Central Library and other festival venues to pick up a programme.
