End of an era as shopping centre boss leaves role

Mr Chris Gribben praised Burnley shoppers for their loyalty to the town which had outperformed national statistics during difficult times including the financial downturn of 2008.

Leaving to spend more time with his family, Mr Gribben (56) said that he had made many friends during his time working in the town, not least his future wife Marie.

He said: “I leave with very happy memories of Burnley. I’ve worked at Charter Walk under a number of different owners and it has all been positive.

“The financial downturn of 2008 was a difficult time, including the shock of Woolworths closing and the centre going into administration. Addington (the current owners) came in and have done a great job.”

Mr Gribben also said that while there had been difficulties presented with the current town centre regeneration, he said the long-term benefits would be worth the disruption.

“I think you’ll see occupancy rates increase in the future,” Chris added. “You can already see the results of the regeneration emerging with the coming arrival of Primark in the town and NEXT upsizing.

“Burnley folk are extremely loyal and I believe the Clarets’ promotion to the Premier League has also helped the town centre. People here are very proud of their town.

“I wish all retailers and shoppers all the very best for the future.”
